Metal Gates and Screens, Kendrew Quadrangle, St John's College, Oxford

Completed gate

A series of 14 bespoke gates and screens for the new RIBA-award-winning Kendrew Quadrangle at St John's College in Oxford. This one of a pair of solid steel water jet cut gates mounted on custom hinges and using electric actuators. The gates are mounted on a three sided structural steel frame as the original stone columns are listed and not capable of taking the applied loads.

This picture shows the gate trial assembled with its frame at the works. The side posts were recessed into the stone columns and the substantial groundbeam with the actuator boxes buried in the ground.

What Our Clients Say

"Thank you for the important part you played in the construction of the prestigious Kendrew Quadrangle project for St John's College. The gates and fencing are of an excellent standard and very much in keeping with the quality of the project itself.

I am fully appreciative of the difficulties you encountered in achieving the complicated design. However, you dealt with all challenges in a calm and professional way, attending many meetings and catering for the many design changes without objection.

I would have no reservations in recommending you to others and very much hope that we have the opportunity of working together in the near future."
